I’ve been running Elvyler’s Game Room for about 6 years. It started out from a desire to share my love of HeroQuest with the world.
I grew up playing HeroQuest, it was a great childhood memory for me, and something I wanted to share with my own children. The problem though, I had given away my copy of the game years before when I went off to college.
Still relatively new to the board game scene, I decided to bite the bullet and late-back AltarQuest thinking that maybe it would be a good substitute. It was no HeroQuest, not to say it isn’t a great game on it’s own, but it didn’t scratch that itch I had. So I started building my own HeroQuest board. I figured that I could yes the minis and it would be fine. This is what ultimately led me to start the Game Room.
Having a web development background, I figured I would slap together a quick and dirty WordPress site in an evening to share my progress building a board, furniture, quests, etc. This all happened shortly before Avalon Hill’s announcement to remake HeroQuest, so I had no idea how much that would impact the Game Room’s journey.
The Room’s been feeling a bit cramped for a while now. I haven’t had as much time to write as I would have liked, and have felt pulled in a lot of different directions. This is long overdue. It was almost 2 years ago now that I first announced I was working on a website redesign. Little did I know just how much the Game Room had outgrown this space. I’ve added several projects to my plate, many of which had moved to the back burner, purely because of time and capability with this site.
It’s taken me the better part of those last two years to go through and redesign everything in a way that will allow it to be flexible and grow. I’ve had to work around busy career schedules, and changing life events, but, finally, we’re just about ready to launch the new site. Along with a handful of updated features and a couple of brand new things on the roster.
Today, I’ll start by revealing the new and improved logo for Elvyler’s Game Room.
As the week goes on, I’ll have more ready to show you. The full website will relaunch on August 1 at 2:00pm ET. I have a lot of exciting things to share with you between now and then. I hope you decide to stick around for the ride.
